A Renewed Resolve

Written on the back of a prayer request card during one church service this past summer...

Pull the scales from my eyes
Rip them one by one
A calloused heart I've contended with
But the battle shall be done.

The fruit of life comes laboriously
As mediocrity ensnares
But break me loose of complacency
In whatever this life fares.

Take up the armor to fight the fight
and when weary just to stand
Do not settle for less than Christ
I'll live for His commands.

Yesterday we watched this movie in my class.  Here is the trailer for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liMhBbl7NDk I've seen it before in undergrad as well. In the 1970's Geraldo Rivera did a film expose on the treatment of over 5000 individuals with mental and physical disabilities who were institutionalized in this "school" on Staten Island.  I was once again brought to tears. Tears that wondered how anyone could treat human beings so inhumanely and tears that asked how God could have allowed such suffering.  I know He felt the pain thousands of times more than me because He knew and created each one of those individuals.  Some He would welcome home and some will have died never believing in Christ as their Savior.  I have no answer to this question, I just was pondering it and needed to put it out there for the world. God Hears

Just be reminded today that He does hear and He does answer prayers.  He is faithful indeed! If you've been reading my blog you know I've been complaining a bit about the work load and feeling stressed.  Do I still have work ahead of me?  Indeed, but I have to say prayer changes things. This morning I prayed remembering that God is who I am dependent on, not myself.  That He is merciful by making me go do my work instead of giving me the day off, because in His plan He knows what fruit that work may produce.  I asked Him this morning to "take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior"(see the song I posted last time).  Trials shall be overcome not by looking at what we have ahead to tackle, but by looking at the Unchanging God.  Our moods don't have to shift with the trials and blessings of life because if we focus on our Lord who is Steadfast and True.  There are so many things I...

Kept and Held

I do not think my testimony is a common one.  I mean, I've met people who have similar stories, but it's not the kind of testimony you typically hear in a sermon or a Christian conference.  Often you hear some story of someone who, by God's grace, turned from a deeply disturbing and destructive path.  Drug addictions, violence, explicit sexual lifestyles, stealing, abused childhoods, poverty, false religions, etc. you get the point.  While very moved by all of these testimonies I could never relate directly.  I was the girl brought up by two very loving parents, who got along well with my siblings, who loved going to church and believed in Jesus for as long as I can remember; and I don't think I was ever grounded...ever.  I am not saying this to make myself sound good, because I know I'm not.  I am hopelessly flawed indeed, but I'm just saying this to illustrate how I could not relate.  My idea of rebellion was sharing a soda with my friend when m...
